TEAM-BASED
STRATEGIC PLANNING INSTITUTE:
Sometimes
institutions seek to train an entire team of on-campus
planners who will lead the school in a yearlong strategic
planning process. To meet this need, we have developed a
team training approach that delivers components of the
strategic planning process in seven workshop modules which
combine presentation with hands-on learning and one-on-one
consulting as the team progresses through the planning
year. Center specialists serve as team coaches between
workshops.
This series of seven leadership workshops takes a
campus strategic planning team from inception to
implementation over an academic year. Learning outcomes
include equipping a core planning team of between five and
seven people to carry out basic strategic planning tasks
including
- Internal and external environment research
- Mission statement development
- Development of core values statements
- Vision casting
- Goal and strategy development
- Outcome-based objective setting
- Identification of strategic initiatives
- Implementation and evaluation strategies
- Plan launch and communication strategies
Team members will analyze their school’s research
data and draw conclusions, interpret and evaluate
Symposium results, and develop a complete plan to the
initiative level along with implementation strategies.
Center specialists critique the plan as the team compiles
it. Team members have unlimited access between sessions to
consultation and support by phone and email from Center
specialists. The Team-Based Strategic Planning Institute
